Christmas – it’s the most wonderful time of the year. The festive season is a time to spend with loved ones, unwind from the hustle and bustle of work, and listen to Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey on repeat. But, let’s be honest…it’s also bloody tough, especially if you’re conscious about your health and wellbeing. Like clockwork every year, our social media feeds and news headlines become flooded with unrealistic headlines like “Stay on Track This Christmas!” or “How to Actually LOSE Weight Over the Holidays!”

But, from the mince pies, to the Christmas ham, to the endless consumption of wine and beer – the distractions to good health are everywhere (and never-ending)! It’s no wonder that staying on track during the holidays is no easy task.

So, how do you stop yourself from dying a slow death of guilt?

The secret is not to get caught in the unrealistic trap that you can get through Christmas unscathed. Let’s be real: have you managed to get through any festive season in the last 10 years unscathed…? So, what’s going to make this year different?

Here’s how to get it done without driving yourself crazy this Christmas:

Throughout the year, you’ve been conscious and mindful of your health. And if you’ve been on a good path you’ve been living the 80/20 rule.

That is, you’re good 80% of the time and leave a little bit of time for some flexibility. And that works perfectly fine when there’s not an overkill of distractions.

So why not leverage your strengths in staying within boundaries – but just modify the boundaries for a short period of time?

For the festive season, how about sticking to 70/30? Or, if you really feel like letting your hair down – make it 60/40.

Don’t get us wrong: this is not an opportunity to blow all the hard work you’ve done throughout the year out the window, and make it even harder next year to get back on track. Whatever you do, don’t take it to 50/50!

We know you’ve got it in you…

You see, you know what you can do. You know there’s distractions. And you know what works for you. It’s time to put all of this together and create a formula that you can not only work to, but you can succeed within.

It’s time to remove the guilt and enjoy the special moments shared with the people who mean most to you. Allow yourself to stop and soak up your time with them without excessively worrying about the calories you’re eating or how many steps you’re taking.

By allowing yourself some additional flexibility to indulge and drop your guard just for a short period of time, you won’t feel so far behind the eight-ball when it’s time to kick things back into full gear.

And, when you do, we’ll be right here to get you back on track.

So, from everyone here at LifeBuddi – have a safe and enjoyable break with friends and family, and we’ll see you in 2018 for your biggest year yet!
