Are you constantly struggling to stay motivated? Tried everything and nothing seems to work? Find yourself sabotaging your goals and straying off path any chance you get? Here’s the one thing you’re missing that will keep you on track for good this time…

In recent years, there has been a huge shift in focus on the health and wellbeing of individuals. And while this is hugely positive in many ways, it means that there are more options and programs than ever that ‘facilitate’ healthy change. With so much information out there, it can leave many of us feeling overwhelmed and confused at where to even begin – which leads us to jump into the latest FAD diet or hardcore workout routine…

Sound familiar? The problem here is that these diets and routines, more often than not, aren’t sustainable. And when they don’t work out, it can leave you feeling less motivated than you were to begin with. That feeling of failure increases the chances of you giving yourself an out and giving up on your goals completely.

But, when it comes to your failed relationship with these programs, we’ve got some news for you: it’s not you, it’s them.

The reality is that most of the health and wellbeing programs on the market today are great at counting your calories and tracking your steps, but fail to catch you in those moments when you need them most… When your alarm goes off at 6am for your morning workout. When you’ve had a long day at work and you’re reaching for the bottle of wine. When you’re feeling burnt out because you’ve spent the day running around after the kids and making sure they’ve been taken care of, all the while forgetting about your own needs.

In those moments where temptation is staring you in the face, that’s where you need something that will remind you of why you wanted to make a change in the first place. It’s when you need something that will pull you back from the edge and keep you on track.

It’s when you need your WHY.

Wondering what a WHY is?

Your WHY is the deep, emotional reason of why you want to make a change. It’s the thing that will keep you motivated even on those cold mornings, long days, or lazy Sunday afternoons. In fact, we would go as far as to say that the reason you’ve struggled to stay on track in the past is because you’ve had a goal but not a WHY…

For example, let’s say you want to lose 5 kilos. That’s a great goal – but why do you want to achieve that? Is it that you want to feel more comfortable in your own skin because you’re sick of feeling bad about yourself? Is it so that you can be a good role model for your children? Maybe you want more energy to keep up with your grandkids. Your WHY will be completely unique to you. But when you dig deep and find your WHY, it’ll give you the same level of motivation as an elite athlete or *that* person you see on their run every morning, and scratch your head wondering how they do it.

It’s time to find your WHY

To find your WHY, you need to get out of your mind and into your heart. Ask yourself: what is the one thing that will be impacted in my life if I make a healthy change? Here, it’s useful to ask yourself why at least 3 times, which might look a little like this:

-Why do I want to lose a few kilos? So I can fit into that new dress.

-Why do I want to fit into that new dress? Because fitting into that dress will give me a confidence boost.

-Why do I need a confidence boost? Because I feel unhappy with my body at the moment, it’s bringing me down.

-Why is it bringing me down? Because I don’t like what I’m seeing in the mirror. I want to feel comfortable in my own skin and have more self-worth…

Ding, ding, ding – you’ve just dug deep and found your WHY!

Now, don’t get us wrong – finding your WHY isn’t always a nice experience. For many people, it means uncovering your deepest insecurities and being brutally honest with yourself about what you’re feeling. But unlocking that emotional reason is essential – in fact, the deeper the emotion your WHY inflicts, the better the result. When you go deep and find your WHY, you’ll give yourself a powerful tool that will help you overcome obstacles and stay motivated with your health goals, everyday.
